When the leaves start dropping from the trees a badger's thoughts turn to preparing for the winter. Here's the mother of the cubs seen in the video of the 14th of August gathering in some bedding.

It's been quiet here lately, with no sign of the cubs on camera. However, it's a large sett with four widely separated entrances so they have probably come and gone via another entrance.

I spent an hour or so, beginning before dusk, up a tree on a couple of nights in recent weeks. On the first I got a few glimpses of an adult and eventually heard that satisfying sound of a relaxed badger having a good scratch before setting off for the night. On the second I saw nothing before it became too dark, so I left them to the camera and slipped away.
